Database overview

There are quite a few database utilities available. Here we explore the different options.

Tips:

Logged in users

View a list of users, where you have the ability to remove them from the system.

Refer to Logged in Users topic in Administration tools for more information.

Tip: Only users with System Administrator access level can use this feature.

Download the latest version

Instead of using an old CD to install on new PCs, an installer can be obtained.

Tips:

Download the latest .MSI Installer

The MSI Installer package for Synergy allows you to complete the installation silently to multiple network computers. This allows the Synergy application to be install on each of the users computers, without any interruption. This can be useful in a large organisation, where many computers require Synergy to be installed.

Rebuild 'Default database connection.xml'

When the database is first created, the application 'connects' to the database. This connection is also established between each PC in your office and is maintained in an XML file.

If any part of the database server details change such as the SQL password or SQL Server name, this file can be recreated, so when it's used to connect a PC to the database, the details will be correct.

Import new license

A license file will be created to coincide with your subscription renewal date, upon receipt of payment. When the license file is received it can be imported here. Log all users out of first.

However, when payment is received the updated license file will be uploaded online and automatically applied to the database.

Database upgrade

If you're prompted to upgrade the database, select this option. Read more on database upgrade.

Database backup

Run a quick backup, create a batch file for SQL Express or schedule a backup for SQL 2000 or SQL 2005.

Locate Create a backup to find out more.

Database restore

If you require to revert to a backup that may be 2 or 3 days old, use this option to restore a previous backup. NOTE all data entered since the date of the backup WILL BE LOST. We strongly recommend you create a quick backup before doing a system restore.

Tip: The Synergy directory is not restored, as this does not get backed up.

Lock Database

If you're performing system maintenance and require all users to not enter the database, select Lock Database. Remember to Unlock database when you're done.

Compact and repair

Compact truncates the log file so that it is empty, and repair re-organises the indexes so they take less space on the disk and this also has the effect of improving the performance of the database.

Tip: This action is performed automatically when an upgrade is performed.

Create a compact and repair batch file
