SQL Express 2008 R2

Select the link below and download the installer file from Support in Synergy Cloud Services:

• 64 Bit Windows - SQL Express 2008 R2 Download

Unzip this file, save to your server and proceed with the Install Instructions.

 Recommended - This is a pre-configured installation of SQL for your server, designed to make installing SQL easier.  You will be able to click Next through each screen. If you do not already have SQL installed on your server, please follow the steps below for this recommended install process.

Advanced users only! - This is a manual installation of SQL and should only be used by those with experience in using and installing SQL.  Please use our recommendations made on each screen in the instructions below.

If you are already using SQL Enterprise or Standard editions on the server, please locate the installation CD or files provided by Microsoft.Click here to locate the topic containing the instructions for installing SQL 2008 enterprise or standard editions.

Launch SQL 2008 Express installer.

• 32 bit Windows: Run the file Setup_x32.bat
• 64 bit Windows: Run the file Setup_x64.bat

Please note this preliminary check may determine that a system restart is required prior to the installation. When this screen is shown, select Show Details to see which issues require to be resolved before the install can commence. If all items pass the check, this screen is not shown.

The Install screen may disappear momentarily during this process. This is OK, please be patient. Click next.

Check the "I accept the license terms” box. Click next.

Leave the settings as default, and click next.

Ensure the named instance is "SYNERGY”. Click next.

Click next.

Password - By default the password is Synergy2008 (case sensitive). Click next.

Optional - Change the password and note it down to provide to your Synergy consultant.

Click next, and the install will begin.

This progress bar will update as the install completes, this process may take a few minutes.

Check the results show that SQL has been installed successfully. If not please contact Synergy Support. Click Close to exit the install wizard.

Open the manual folder for the relevant operating system i.e. 32 or 64 bit.

Launch SQL 2008 Express installer file named:

• 32 bit windows: SQLEXPR_x32_ENU.exe
• 64 bit windows: SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe

Select 'New installation or add features to an existing installation'.

Check the box "I accept the license terms” and click next.

Please check the Microsoft website for more information on these settings. Click next. 

Defaults to instance name "SQLExpress". Recommended - change the instance name to "SYNERGY”.

Please make a note of the instance name. Your Synergy consultant will need this information. Click next.

Service Accounts

Set the Services Account name to use ”NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE” and Startup Type to Automatic.

Collation

Leave the collation set to the default Latin1_General_CI_AS. Click next. 

Click next.

This progress bar will update as the install completes, this process may take a few minutes.

Check the results show that SQL has been installed successfully. If not please contact Synergy Support. Click Close to exit the install wizard.
