Prepare the installation for remote connections

The following instructions are required to be carried out on database server, where SQL has been installed.

Enable Server TCP/IP

ClosedStart the SQL Server Configuration manager
  1. Start > All programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2008R2 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration manager. 
  2. Expand the SQL server network configuration tree.
  3. In the left panel select Protocols for Synergy.
  4. In the right hand panel, right click Named Pipes and select Enable - click OK to the warning message.
  5. Right click TCP/IP and select enable - click OK to the warning message.

Enable Client TCP/IP

ClosedComplete the following steps:
  1. Expand the SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration.
  2. Select Client protocols.
    1. In the right hand panel, right click Named Pipes and select Enable.
    2. Right click TCP/IP and select Enable.

SQL Server Services

ClosedStop all SQL Server services

Here you will stop the SQL Services:

  1. In the left panel select SQL Server Services.
  2. From the right hand panel, right click SQL Server (Synergy) and select Stop. Repeat this for ALL SQL Servers including SQL Server browser. 
ClosedStart all SQL Server services
  1. Right click SQL Server (Synergy) and select Start. Repeat this for ALL SQL Servers including SQL Server browser. 
  2. Ensure SQL Server Agent is also started.
ClosedEnsure SQL Servers are set to start Automatically
  1. Select SQL Server Agent (Synergy).
  2. Select the Service tab.
  3. Set the Start mode to Automatic.
  4. Repeat this for ALL SQL Server Agents.
