Create Documents in MS Word 2007 (or prior)

Error

You have MS Word® 2007 (or prior version) installed on your computer.

When you create documents in Synergy using document templates on of the following errors might be shown:

After you receive the above error the document is not created, or cannot be opened on your computer.

Solution

The new style of document templates added to Synergy in the 4.9.1 release uses the DOCX format. The DOCX format is supported in MS Word® versions that are 2010 or higher.

Option 1

Resolve this issue by installing the Microsoft Compatibility Pack onto your computer. After the install is complete you should be able to open and edit DOCX files in older versions of Word. This is available from Microsoft here.

Option 2

Switch off the use of the new faster DOCX template engine, and revert back to the older template format of DOT.

Disable this setting in Synergy (not recommended) by:

  1. Login as a System Administrator
  2. Go to Tools > System Settings
  3. Open the General tab.
  4. Uncheck the box 'Use fast DOCX templates'.
  5. Save.
  6. DOT templates will now be used and created by default.
