SQL 2012 Enterprise Edition

Insert your server CD that contains the SQL 2012 Enterprise Edition.

Select 'Installation' from the left hand panel.

Click the image above to view the SQL Server Installation Center screen.

Select 'New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation'.

Select ’Show Details’. Failed items need to be resolved before the install can be completed.  This screen may take a few minutes to complete the check of all the rules.

Click OK when all the rules have passed.

By default any available product updates will be downloaded as part of the installation process.

Click Next to begin the setup process and download the update files.

Any product updates will be downloaded, and the installation of the setup files will commence.

This process will take a few minutes to complete.

Click 'Show Details' to view the results, or select to 'View detailed report'.

Click Next to continue if no items are shown as failed.

Select 'Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2012' and then click Next.

Enter product key provided by Microsoft, and then click Next.

Select the 'I accept the license terms' check box, and then click Next.

Select 'SQL Server Feature Installation' and then click Next.

Select Database engine services, and then click Next.

Please check the Microsoft website for more information on each of these settings.

Select ’Show Details’ and resolve any failed items before proceeding with the install. Click Next, if all items are shown as passing the installation rules.

Select the 'Named Instance' option, and enter the instance name of 'SYNERGY'. Click next.

This will calculate the disk space requirements based upon the install location specified.  If Ok to continue, select Next.

Service Accounts

Select the required 'Account name' in the drop down list, and set the 'Startup Type' to Automatic.

NOTE: If you are not part of a domain, you must select Local Service.

Collation

Leave the collation set to the default Latin1_General_CI_AS. Click Next.

Account provisioning tab

Select the 'Mixed Mode' Authentication option. Then setup the password and SQL Server administrators.

Password

Set a password for the SQL Instance.

• Recommended - 'Synergy2012’ (case sensitive).
• Optional - Enter a customised password.

Specify SQL Server administrators (Optional)

Add at least active directory account as the administrator (usually an admin user).

• If logged in as the admin user on the server, then select ’Add current user’.
• If logged in as another user, select ’Add...’ find and select the Administrator user from the list of users.

Data directories tab (Optional)

Specify the location of the database files if other than the default C drive. Changing the ’Data root directory’ changes the other directories. This is not essential and depends upon individual server configurations. Click next. 

Click Next.

Select ’Show Details’ and resolve any failed items before continuing. Click Next once all items are shown as Passed.

Check the ready to install SQL Server panel, and it all details shown are correct then press the 'Install' button to begin.

The install of SQL 2012 will begin. This process will take a few minutes to complete.

Check the results show that SQL has been installed successfully. If not please contact Synergy Support.

Click Close to exit the install wizard.

Before the installation is complete a few settings need to be adjusted in the SQL Server Configuration Manager to allow Synergy to run correctly. Complete the following steps:

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2012 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
2. In the left panel expand the 'SQL Server Network Configuration' and select 'Protocols for SYNERGY' from the list.
3. Highlight 'Named Pipes' in the right panel.
4. Right mouse click 'Named Pipes' and select 'Enable' from the list.
5. Highlight 'TCP/IP', and right mouse click and select 'Enable'.
6. The SQL Server Network Configuration will now look like below:

7. Next select 'SQL Server Services' in the left panel.
8. In the right panel select 'SQL Server (Synergy)' from the list.
9. Right mouse click 'SQL Server (Synergy)' and select 'Restart' from the list shown.
10. After the restart process of the server has completed, highlight the service 'SQL Server Browser'.
11. Right mouse click 'SQL Server Browser' and select 'Restart' from the list.
12. Once the restart process has completed, setup of SQL Server 2012 is finished.
