MS SQL 2012 Express cannot be installed if you already have SQL 2012 Standard/Enterprise installed on your server. Please follow these instructions provided by Microsoft® to successfully install a Synergy instance in your existing SQL software.
Tips:
The installation files for SQL 2012 Enterprise or Standard edition will have been provided to you by Microsoft. Locate your installation CD before starting the installation process.
Please login using the administrator account before starting the install process. The server will require to be restarted once the install is complete.
Insert your server CD that contains the SQL 2012 Enterprise Edition.
This preliminary check may determine that a system restart is required prior to the installation.
Select ’Show Details’. Failed items need to be resolved before the install can be completed. This screen may take a few minutes to complete the check of all the rules.
Click OK when all the rules have passed.

Service Accounts
Select the required 'Account name' in the drop down list, and set the 'Startup Type' to Automatic.
NOTE: If you are not part of a domain, you must select Local Service.

Collation
Leave the collation set to the default Latin1_General_CI_AS. Click Next.

Account provisioning tab
Select the 'Mixed Mode' Authentication option. Then setup the password and SQL Server administrators.
Password
Set a password for the SQL Instance.
Tip: Your Synergy consultant will need this information. Please take note of the password entered on this screen.

Specify SQL Server administrators (Optional)
Add at least active directory account as the administrator (usually an admin user).
Data directories tab (Optional)
Specify the location of the database files if other than the default C drive. Changing the ’Data root directory’ changes the other directories. This is not essential and depends upon individual server configurations. Click next.
Check the results show that SQL has been installed successfully. If not please contact Synergy Support.
Click Close to exit the install wizard.

The server will require to be restarted to complete the installation process.
Before the installation is complete a few settings need to be adjusted in the SQL Server Configuration Manager to allow Synergy to run correctly. Complete the following steps:
